Due to the continued expansion of system engineering related activities within its Technical Consulting pracice, Advantage has several vacancies for experienced Systems Engineering Consultants to undertake a variety of roles across the Defence and Transport market sectors. Much of the work will be involved with the application of systems engineering principles and techniques to support large scale procurement, systems integration and introduction of systems into service.
Advantage's consultancy assignments occur across all stages of the project lifecycle and span a variety of roles, including :
- research into systems engineering methods and their application
- provision of a targeted advice to clients relating to specific problems
- wider ranging support to clients in the establishment of their own systems engineering practice and processes
- undertaking specific systems engineering activities on behalf of clients
The successful candidates will also be expected to support a range of broader actitivites within Technical Consulting, including:
- internal systems engineering methods and process development
- business development and proposal writing
- conferences and exhibitions
These roles are based in Bristol or Farnham, Surrey, but may require periods of working on-site with clients as an integrated member of a Project team. Most on-site working is within daily commute of Bristol (or Farnham), but opportunities arise to work further afield, including Europe and beyond. |

ESSENTIAL:
Qualifications: Minimum 2.1 degree in a Numerate Discipline, ideally Systems Engineering/Software Engineering. A higher degree in a relevant discipline would be an advantage.
Experience required:
Previous experience of systems engineering with recent experience in at least three of the following:
- Systems Engineering methods - eg requirements management, systems architecture, architecture frameworks, systems/technology maturity assessments, change/configuration management, test management, interface and assumptions management.
- Systems Assurance - eg auditing and review of user requirements, system specification and designs, assessments of systems and software supplier capabilities with respect to processes, products, quality and programme adherence.
- Software Assurance - eg code unit, software integration, software-hardware integration and acceptance testing, commissioning and operational trials.
- Procurement Support - eg production of procurement documentation, risk management, through life planning, cost and benefits analysis, tender assessment and contract negotiation.
Successful applicants will be required to be security cleared prior to appointment.
DESIRABLE:
- Broad knowledge of systems and software development processes, methods and tools.
- Broad knowledge of systems and software development and assessment standards (eg 15288)
- Experience of "systems of systems" issues and methods.
- Experience of secure systems methods.
- Involvement in academic and professional networks.
- Project Management capability and experience.
- Abillity to identify business opportunities.
- Experience in providing consultancy support and representing company interest at client sites.

Due to the continued expansion of security related project activities within its Technical Consulting practice, Advantage has a vacancy for an experienced Security Consultant to take a leading role in developing the security practice across the Government and Defence market sectors. Much of the project work will involve the definition of security concepts and architectures to support large scale procurement, systems integration and introduction of systems into service.
The successful candidate will be expected to take a leading role in a broader range of acitivites within Technical Consulting, including :
- Internal security competence development
- Security marketing and sales, including proposal writing
- Profile raising at security-related conferences and exhibitions
The role is based in Bristol or Farnham, Surrey, but may require periods of working on-site with client, leading, or as an integrated member of, a Project team. Most on-site working is within daily commute of Bristol (or Farnham), but opportunities may arise to work further afield, including Europe and beyond. |

- Consultancy Assignments - Risk assessments, production of security documentation, support to accreditation, senior level advice etc.
- Methods and standards - JSP440, DIAN 07/08, CLAS, HMG Infosec Standards, BS 7799, CRAMM, defence accreditation processes etc.
- Technology areas - IP, VoIP, cryptography, PKI, identity management, SOA, etc.
- Business Development - proven ability to undertake marketing activities and to identify, develop and secure sales, effective proposal writing skills, good professional and client network of contacts.
- Project Management - proven ability to manage and control projects at a range of sizes, effective people management skills, good communications and technical leadership abilities.
